Open Question: Antelope Valley residents: Can you explain...?The High Desert area north of Los Angeles has the reputation for being a hotbed of white racism, sort of an Idaho Panhandle-light. From time to time there'll be attacks by skinheads or neo-Nazis on a black or Hispanic or Asian, and it'll be all over the news, and strengthen the area's anti-minority reputation. BUT: If you go to the Antelope Valley Mall in Palmdale, you'll see the largest concentration of white husband/black wife couples you're likely to see anywhere. Stake out a spot anywhere in that mall on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, and you won't believe how many big, musclebound, shaved-headed, tattooed white guys will come strolling by with their black wives or girlfriends (although most of the couples I've seen have wedding rings), lovingly and tenderly carrying their mixed-race infants or leading by the hand their mixed-race toddlers. I hate to make generalizations about people, but just about all of the kids seem to be happy, and they're well-mannered and very well-behaved---something you would NOT expect of the children of guys who look like these guys! AV residents, have you noticed this phenomenon, and how do you explain it? Open Question: what neighborhoods in Los Angeles are good for recent college grads?ideally less than $2000 a month for a two bedroom place. my buddy and I may be moving out west and i can't find good information about the different neighborhoods in the city. any sites that give this info will also help.
