Open Question: my outdoor stray tested positive for FIV / cat aids. what are my options? i can't make him an indoor cat :(?I was going to take him to be neutered when I asked for blood tests first. Yesterday, he was to be neutered, his tests came back positive for FIV. I brought him back for a more comprehensive $150 Western Blot test & are waiting for the results. He is indoors now as my parents are away. He has adjusted very well & has enjoyed his first few nights of real sleep, not street cat naps. I am falling in love with him more than ever. What are my options??? I can not make him an indoor cat...parents will never agree...too many other animals indoors already. I can't bear the thought of euthanizing him just because. Is it responsible of me if his test comes back positive to simply neuter him, give him his shots & then let him back out?? Will neutering him solve part of the problem of him fighting for territoty, food & mating?? It is quite possible there are already a bunch of 'sick cats' where he hangs out most of the time 2 blocks up. I put a craigslist ad just in case someone with no cats would take him in...I think he can get quite used to the idea of no worries & no fights for territory. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/pet/1703977624.html What do I do? What would you do? He has to go back outside on Sunday. Wondering if I should go ahead and neuter him on Saturday & get his shots anyways & have more time to decide what is best for him or possibly find him a home. I also know that he will require a lot of money as I will have to have him tested often, get him to the vet, pay for his flea control stuff, and then pay for him as he gets sick someday. Is it worth it for him or is it like letting him suffer when the life of a street cat is pretty terrible and there are over a million strays on the streets of Los Angeles. My own house cats have never cost me much money to 'maintain.' Thanks & Peace! More Recent Articles
