Open Question: If protectionism is a good idea for a nation, why isn't it a good idea for a household as well?If you accept the idea that trading with foreigners rather than people from your own country is a means for the prosperity of your people, then wouldn't the same principle also apply at the level of each individual household? If Americans should "Buy American" rather than from foreigners because doing so is beneficial for the American people as a whole (and not just less efficient American businesses), shouldn't people from the state of California "Buy California" rather than from out-of-state businesses? if Californians should "Buy California," shouldn't people from Los Angeles "Buy LA" rather than from businesses outside of the city? If people from LA should "Buy LA," then shouldn't people from Compton "Buy Compton" rather than from businesses outside of that region of LA? If people from Compton should "Buy Compton," shouldn't one single household in Compton only "buy" from that household? If you agree with me that protectionism is absurd on a local level, then shouldn't you also reject protectionism on the national level?
