Open Question: 1300 mile bike ride with tent and other necessities.?I want to ride a bike from Oklahoma (home state) to Los Angeles California. 1317 miles in 24 days. That's about 55 miles a day. I would have a full bottle of water for every 10 miles between stops. (If there were 60 miles between two stops I would have 6 full bottles of water.) I was also going to camp out in the desert rather than use hotels (this was going to be a real outdoors experience). I know how to camp pretty well but I was hoping for advice on what aspects I should look for while mapping out my trip. I also was hoping for reccomendations on good websites for this sort of thing. I am in the military so I have some pretty good resources at my disposal, I was just trying to pull from a wider range of advice. I only have 28 days of leave to get this all done in and it's during the summer when the temperature will be about 100 degrees the whole way. Thank you Open Question: Another excerpt from my book! Need opinions!?So I just started writing seriously, and I was wondering if the excerpt from my book is any good. It's just a part of the second page, so obviously it's not going to tell too much about the story. The story is called "Writings." Kaycee crossed her arms and pouted almost the whole night at the motel. It just wasn't fair, she told herself over and over, even though it was Kaycee herself who told Sara that fair was overrated. Mom and Dad were always siding with Sara. Sara was more responsible than Kaycee, they said, so she was in charge while their parents were gone. Sara was almost in high school, so according to her parents she was smarter than Kaycee, so she was always right. She was talented and pretty and Kaycee was just big, awkward Kaycee. No one cared when she scored a goal or was voted MVP in soccer. Nobody cared when Kaycee finally learned how to divide decimals or when Kaycee brought home a great report card. It was Sara this and Sara that. Just out of a grudge against her, Kaycee decided to put a wasabi pea in her sister's nose while she was sleeping. She was not happy when she woke up. On the second half of the trip to Los Angeles, Kaycee was crabby and rude, as she had stayed up half the night moping about her parents favoritism towards Sara. "So," Sara said, the kind of 'so' people use to end awkward silences. "Shut UP," Kaycee whined. "I don't want to hear you talk!" "Wow, Kace," Sara said, shocked by Kaycee's utter rudeness. "Too bad the government's banned happy drugs." "Ha, ha," Kaycee said sarcastically. Sara was not impressed by Kaycee's cynical humor, so she proceeded to correct her obnoxiousness. "How rude you are, you little parasite," she said. "I'm rude? I didn't call you a parasite!" Sara's comebacks always gave Kaycee a prickly feeling on the back of her neck, as if she had hackles that needed smoothing down. This feeling always made Kaycee more determined to respond quickly and equally, if not more, rudely. Thanks for reading! I'm twelve years old, by the way, and if you have experience in getting books published, is that too young? Will an editor even look at my work? More Recent Articles
